    Under CA state laws...
It would be legal for an SKS with a fixed 10 round or less magazine.

    Under Federal laws...
However, Fed 922r applies. So you will need to switch out some foreign made parts for USA made parts in order to be legal under Federal laws [18 USC 922(r)].

You need to change out certain imported parts for domestic made parts. I would suggest searching around for SKS 922(r) compliance info, if youre not familiar with it.

Sounds like a non-knowledgable LEO may arrest you anyways and cost you lawyer fess.

Maybe it's better to leave it alone...

Its very do-able if you want to, Im sure at least one person on this site has a similar setup. However, due to circumstances in this state (and in this case, country) a little research and work is necessary on your part to make sure you're staying compliant with all applicable laws.

IMHO, its probably not worth it. SKS's are fine guns completely stock, and considering the amount of time/energy/money that would go into making it CA compliant, I would personally choose to just leave it alone, but thats just me.I would say though that if you want to do it, go for it, dont let the relatively small speed bumps deter you.

As long as you keep it at a 10rd fixed magazine, you are good to go.

                why?
This item counts as 3 U.S. Sec 922R compliant parts.
Doesn't "922r compliant" mean US made?

                according to Tapco website:

                it's US Made.

"922(r) compliant" means there are 10 or less imported parts on the SKS. If Tapco is correct about their stock counting as three 922(r) parts on an SKS then you would still need to replace one (or two?) other parts to make the SKS 922(r) compliant. I believe ATF says that SKSs are made up of 14 or 15 922(r) parts.
