had a loaded gun pointed at me today

So I just came back from the shooting range, I was there with my friend and his younger brother for his brothers birthday. While I was at the range I ran into a couple of guys from my old high school who were there renting guns and shooting.

I made sure to stress safety with my friends little brother when telling him how to handle the gun, especially watching his finger being on the trigger and so on and so forth.

while my friend was loading his magazines I went over to where the guys I knew from school were, they were renting out a shotgun and offered to let me shoot it, so while I was waiting for my turn, there were some young asian men (and i only mention they are asian because english was obviously not their first language) i dont know how old but they were there with their mother also renting firearms in the lane next to the guys I knew.

Im going to assume it was their first time shooting because they thought it was funny or crazy or whatever it was at how loud and powerful the .45 they were shooting was. so while im standing a safe distance behind the guy from school i always kind of pay attention to the number of shots going on from people around me just because i count everything. but im standing there and one of these asian guys backs out of the booth turns around laughing after shooting 2 shots while the gun is pointed right at me with his finger ON THE TRIGGER. I instantly yelled at him to point the gun away from me, "WOAH WOAH POINT IT THAT WAY" pointing my arm down range. straight up scared the crap out of me. the guy quickly turned back facing the range and set the gun down and started apologizing. i just stared at him and walked away. my heart was pounding like crazy. thankfully i was on the furthest lane away from him but kind of kept my eye out for any more irresponsible behavior, which i did not see because im pretty sure i freaked them out, his mother and friend or whoever were with him just kinda got quiet and tensed up. I know I probably should have told the people that ran the range what happened and to keep an eye out. but was unfortunately distracted with the news that my friends uncle had just died right as we were leaving the range.

I understand people want to have fun and shoot, but I feel like for places renting guns out to people should keep a close eye on those people, or at least go over safety measures of some sort, because that was not cool, i almost pooped myself.

I think every noob shooter should go through a safe handling test/course before entering the firing line. Scary unsafe people out there...

Sounds like something that happens regularly on the weekends at Spenceville.
I know ay Livermore the RSO actually watches what goes on and jumps on anyone that is unsafe. There is a strict rule that all firearms must be pointed downrange, including when they are cased and uncased.

If something like that would have happened at YSA in Woodland a year ago, that negligent Asian would have been fricking disemboweled. (Anyone who knows former YSA RO Jeff Murray knows exactly what I mean)

that is MY own rule when I go shooting with people, and if you happen to open your case and its not pointing downrange you make sure you turn it to do so. im a safety nut.

I don't think you handled it well. I know you don't know them and it's technically not your problem, but I really think you should have taken out 5 minutes to explain gun safety to them.

Range Officers should always be right there. You really take your life into your hands when shooting around strangers.

i know, i was just dealing with being terrified. and after i left i figured i should have taken the time to explain it. hopefully it never happens again, but if it does next time ill take the time to explain it.

Once at chabot a group of guys 3 lanes to the right of me muzzle swept half of range to the left. At the time it wasn't very busy, but there was definelty a lot of people around.

It all started when i was sighting in my new custom 10/22 build on the 50 yard line when I heard what sounded like someone trying to take apart or fixing a rifle. As soon as i turn to my right I see a ak muzzle pointed right at my face.

I moved away from point of aim at the same time trying to see what these dudes were doing. Next thing I know I see a RO running towards their bench screaming to put down the rifle. Once the RO was done yelling at them I asked him what did they do because all i saw was a muzzle pointed at my face. He then said I was lucky that the rifle didn't fire because apparently there was a jam with a live round in the chamber and their way of fixing the rifle was smashing it with a empty magazine.

This wasn't even the worst part of my story. It turned out that the 3 guys were a dad and his sons. While the RO was ripping the dad a new one, the sons were chuckling like nothing happened. Not a single apology from any of te guys. All they did was just laughed their way back to their car.

When I took my girlfriend to the range for her first time I told how things work at the range. I put a lot of emphasize on " whatever happens...point the gun down the lane. no matter what! "

yeah its ridiculous how some people just dont realize what they are doing wrong, or just dont care.

Can i assume that when he next lined up to shoot the gun all he actually had to do is bend over and clench his butt to fire the weapon?

Yet ANOTHER reason for me to rent my own private range or go out on BLM land when i go shooting.
