    Buying a pistol. Question

Edit: Ok i did a search for "Proof of residency" and found the answer to my first question.

I still cannot find what i need to sell my pistol to a friend. For a private transfer i just need to bring the pistol, and my friend who is buying it to make the transfer right? How much should i expect to pay for the transfer?

Also I am wanting an XD pistol and was wondering if anyone could recomend a good place to buy one in the Bay Area, i live near Walnut Creek in the East Bay and dont want to have to drive too far.

    Thanks

Well, if you price the pistol fairly, your friend the buyer should pay the transfer and the DROS without griping (much). $10? $15? $25? I've forgotten - it wasn't all that much at Trader's in San Leandro.

Driving 'too far' is relative; it's just that you have to go to select and buy, then come back in 10 days! I haven't been shopping recently, so I don't know who carries XDs. I bought pistols at SportMart in Concord, but they stopped carrying pistols, Seigel's in Oakland, but they're out of business, and Hogan's in Pleasant Hill, who also have quit handguns. The northern East Bay is a little thin on retail gun sellers.

The Antioch Armory on Wst 2nd St. in downtown Antioch usually has a good selection of XDs. Last time I was in there they had a couple 9s, a couple 40s, and one two-tone 9. They also had a really good condition used 40 at a pretty good price. They never seem to have the lowest prices, but they are nice guys and usually have what I'm looking for in stock. I have no idea what they charge for transfers though.

Last time i sold a handgun to a friend, i had him pick out the FFL. We went there, i brought the handgun. My friend filled out the paperwork, paid the transfer fees. I left the handgun with the FFL. My friend waited the 10 days and that was that. Very easy/straight forward.

Don't forget that the buyer has to have a safety certificate in order to buy your firearm.

It also shouldn't be more than $35 bucks (DROS included) if the two of you walk in there together and there's no mailing of the firearm involved.

There is no transfer fee. You both go the an FFL, he gives you the money for the handun, he files DROS with the FFL and 10 days later he can pick up his handgun. He needs to pay for the handgun and for the DROS/FFL fees, not you.
