    CA LEO transfer to civilian

So I searched and unable to locate using multiple words (quite frustrating )

My friend is a local CA LEO offering to sell me one of his guns (no big deal). However, when he purchased it, being a LEO, it only came with the high-cap mags. So is there any cause for concern if I buy it and do transfer?

    1. is it a standard ppt i can do at any ffl?
    2. what about the hi cap mags?

Am I just overthinking this entire process? I simply do not want any issues w/the law and hi cap mags.

Not sure if this the correct section. Mods feel free to correct if needed.
    TIA all!

You can have the gun, he cannot give you the mags. He can break the mags down and give them to you as rebuild kits, which you can modify to be legal.

I think it should be okay, you just can't have the mags like pappabacon said.
I purchased my gun from my LEO friend and we just did a regular private party transfer at a local FFL.

Except that you still need at least 1 x 10rd mag to go with the handgun for the PPT. As long as that particular gun has a 10rd mag available for it, then just buy one and have the seller put it with the gun for the PPT. If there aren't any 10rd mags available for that model gun, then permanently modify one of the high cap mags to 10 rounds, and use that with the gun for the PPT.

The mag is mainly for the handgun safety demo when you're picking up the gun. But I've seen some FFL's also say that it's so that ATF/DOJ doesn't give them any crap if they come and do a check on them and their inventory.

Also, your thread title is misleading. LEO's are civilian too unless they're in the military. The only issue is LEO's are a different class of citizen that have special exemptions when on and off the clock.

I'll try to rephrase the question as I think its trying to be asked. Can you purchase an off roster pistol from a LEO via PPT?
