    gatling gun

Whats the legality on a handcrank gatling gun? Someone once told me it was legal as long as its one shot per revolution.

If you are talking about a true Gatling gun that uses a cam action to perform the functions of repeatedly cocking and firing the weapon, then they are legal no matter what the shots per revolution are. If you are talking about a crank added to a semi auto firearm, then no, it is not legal.

I take it replacing the habd crank with an electric motor is a big no-no?

If you like federal pound-me-in-the-rear prison, then they're a huge yes!

Replacing hand crank with drill motor = Federally defined machinegun. You cannot build one. Not in any state.

Are you saying you cant build one at all,,or just not an electric powered one?

Personally, i would be more than happy with a hand crank and a couple grand worth of 45-70

Hand crank gatling guns are perfectly legal in most states (including CA).

Replacing the hand crank with a drill motor is a federal crime in all states.

With good reason. That right there would land you in California state pound-you-in-the-rear prison.

I had a full size gatling gun, the problem is the feed mechanism falls under the 10 round magazine limit. They used either upright sticks or large helical feed drums...

Illegal in CA because it modifes two semi-automatic guns (10/22's) and falls under the "trigger activator" ban in CA (and two other states).

Funny thing or should I say sad, was that until the ATF changed the ruling in 2004,(link to ruling) you could put an electric motor on a Gatling gun, the older ruling was an IRS ruling from 1955 that stated you could but now it is illegal. You can still build a Gatling gun, even in CA but like Cudakidd said, unless you had magazines for it from before the ban, you would be limited to 10 rounds.
