    Pawn Shop - Retail Prices??

Went in to a pawn shop for the first time the other day. They had a decent selection of used long-guns. I was a little surprised that they were asking retail for most of these guns.
I guess it couldnt hurt to just throw a low-ball number at them.

They're probably pricing them knowing that they're gonna have to haggle... pawn shops are one of the few retail places that customers go in knowing that they're gonna haggle (like a car dealership, etc.).

Prices at a pawn shop are going to be at or close to retail. The general rule I've heard from a few people I've known who were in the business at one time or another is they want to profit at least 50% to 100% above what they paid for it. More profit = better for them. If you throw too low of a number at them, they're just going to say no, and let the haggling begin.

In the last ten weeks I've called them four different times to find out what they might have laying around----and all four times their one 'Gun Guy' wasn't going to be in that day.

Oil well, I'm driving to WhiskeyOnsin this week----and I'm actually getting rather aroused dreaming of all the cool stuff I might just find in various p/shops and gun stores along the way. Too bad I can't take ten grand with me

Brookhurst Pawn (Anaheim) is notorious for this. I visited the shop twice with cash in hand. I offered him a respectable offer on a used XD. I don't like low balling, well he didn't budge. I believe most of their firearms business is online and ftf business isn't their forte

Flat tires don't mean much, and exactly what model specialized bike? They have models with an MSRP over $9,000. Not saying the $800 bike was one of those, but it may have been a heck of a deal.

I know flat tires is no big deal, it just makes for a poor presentation

Stay away from pawn shops if buying used modern guns.

I dunno. I got a stellar deal on my M&P 40 at a pawn shop. It's accurate, cleaned up well and hasn't had a stoppage in several thousand rounds of fire. What's not to like?
