    Personal shooting range.

Now that The Academy in Palm Desert is officially closed, and going out into the desert is a no go due to some endangered turtle/rat/whatever.

How could I (if possible) go about building my own range on my land?
What permits would I have to get?

I've wanted to buy a few acres just to go shoot on. I'm so tired of the bs you find on ranges and blm land

A friend of mine and his friends head out into one of the gullies that branches of Box Canyon to do some shooting when CHP rolled up on them. The officer told them they couldn't be out there for the same reasons the off-roaders couldn't, some endangered critter. this was back in '05. I'm not aware of any policy change otherwise (assuming it ever existed)

Anyways I was hoping to rent a bulldozer and simply make an earth embankment about 7 feet high and about 4 feet thick, behind that is only vegetable fields.

How much property do you have?
What type guns will be going bang?
How often is there going to noise?
                How close are your neighbors?
Is it even legal to shoot on your property? IE city codes
