So i've been going to stampede shooting area (at boca) for probably about 5 years now. Every time it's the same, we show up about the time the sky is just starting to brighten, go do some trout jigging at the dam, keep a few of the bigger ones for later, then go shooting. Every time we say we'll get a key after fishing, since the ranger station only opens 8 or 9 am, but that's like 10-12 miles back down towards donner then 10-12 miles back and we just end up hiking in which isn't a problem other than that we can't bring in something like a couple chairs and a benchrest for the rifles. I personally like the third range so it's like a half mile hike in meaning limited gear.
My question is, as far as i know this range is taken care of by a shooting club, but i've searched and searched and can't find who it is or who to contact. I heard that you can purchase a key from them for 50 bucks and that would be amazing. Anyone have any info?
