The rifle shown below is a Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen Carbine. It was purchased by my uncle in 1960 in St. George Utah, intended to be used for deer hunting. I have been told the carbine is a vary rare variant of the full length infantry rifle?
Its chambered in .30-40 Government caliber. It has the "3 notch" rear sight leaf for running horses. I was given the rifle when I was 2 years on right before my uncle passed. The last time it was fired was approximately 1989, it does work well and its very accurate. It appears to have 4 groove (?!?) rifling and the bore is fairly shiny. As you can see the bluing is pretty and so is the wood.
The rifle is in GREAT shape overall! This is the Krag I kept talking about a few months back when y'all helped me thru my tough-time financially...
I was curious if any of you guys can tell me an approximate value on this war collectible. I am very interested in parting ways with the old girl as I am in need of some funds and I dont ever use the Krag...
So if you guys have any idea what it's worth, please let me know (send a PM PLEASE as I don't always see emails)
I'd be most interested in trading for a Kel-Tec SU16 or some interesting handgun like a Glock 19 or a Taurus PT-111 or something like that.... (Make me an offer I can't refuse, lol) Since its an 1898 there is NO FFL INTERVENTION NEEDED
CASH N CARRY HERE FOLKS!!! This rifle shoots a very effective .30 caliber bullet (first .30 adopted by the US .GOV and smokeless powder as well... this will still bag a deer w/no troubles!)
If you can help me figure this out, lemme know...I'd surely appreciate it!!!
