    CCW talk at flyshop

So, I was at the San Carlos flyshop checking out a new rod and seeing about their upcomming summer wilderness trip. As I'm roving, because I had money burning a hole in my pocket, I over hear some guy practically on the verge of yelling.

I glanced over and there was a table with I believe three gents 1 in his 30's and 2 in their 40's to 50's? They were sitting down and hand tying some flies. I only glanced for a second because i tried to ignore them...

But, the younger guy had yelled something to the effect of, I don't care what the law is, I carry my Aluminum (3" or 4") inch Kimber 45 everywhere and every day and I don't need a CCW because it's stupid. One of the older guys asked if it was illegal to do so, and the younger guy continued that he didn't care. The two other guys seemed to be bothered by the younger guy, but I was trying to MYOB and don't remember their additional comments.

It kinda "killed" my fly fishing, "buzz".

I just seemed a little tacky, but not earth shattering...

    IMHO, that's all.

Believe it or not there are people who carry illegally. I'd like to carry but don't have a ccw and I don't want to lose my privilege of owning a firearm.

Hypothetically, if I were committing a crime which could prohibit my owning of firearms for a long time, I'd keep my mouth shut.

I was thinking the same thing.

            How's that saying go?

"Play stupid games, win stupid prizes"

            or something to that effect.

There is an article covering this topic in the current issue of either it's American Handgunner or Combat Handguns by Massad Ayoob. He covers several scenarios he's been involved with in one way or the other over the years where an otherwise law-abiding someone carried without a permit and lived to regret it. He makes a number of valid points in the article that the hot-headed youngster you cited could have benefited from reading. Get caught, and lose not only your carry gun but ALL your guns, for the rest of your life? Seems like a mighty big gamble to me.
