Im so mad right now!!!!!!

So I went to Fowlers about a week ago to buy some small stuff and the cashier said why not pick up one of these miracle rags we have here as they work really well on wiping down your gun....I said what the hell it was only $2 so I picked one up....

So I bring it home and read the directions and wipe down my still new mossberg 590A1 with it only to find out that it took some of the finish off my freaking gun!!!!!!

It lists guns on there saying that its safe to use on them....So I go to Fowlers today and talk with Keith and he says he has sold hundreds of these with no problems....He gave me the manufacturers number to call on Monday to complain to but I highly doubt they will do anything.....Im going to tell them that Ill send a copy of the refinishing bill to them certified mail for re-imbursement....Hopefully they will be cool about it

I guess Ill send it out to Vang Comp and get the barrel done and the whole gun re-finished Im so mad that a $2 rag could destroy my poor 590A1.....So what is everyone getting their shotguns coated with? Duracoat?

If you have an airbrush, an oven, and an eye for detail, try refinishing it yourself first.

I used Moly Resin on many guns and it's great stuff.

Did it take the finish off down to the bare metal?

Some of those gun cleaning clothes have a warning on them to avoid certain finishes. this one's from the Tipton Metal Magic Rust and Lead Remover Gun Cleaning Cloth

This non-abrasive cloth removes rust and tarnish as well as carbon, lead and copper fouling. Not for use on blued or case colored surfaces.

That means who ever parkerized the gun didn't do it right. After coming out of the sand blaster (or preferably bead blaster, then you don't have to do this step) the gun needs a good rubdown with some steel wool to remove the microscopic jagged edges left by the sand. If you don't do that and just throw it in the tanks you wind up with bits of metal underneath the finish that are flaking off. Why I prefer bead blasting, it doesn't leave the jagged finish.

The cloth is just called the miracle cloth....I thought it was just a silicone cloth but I guess not....

I think Im going to send it out to Vang Comp so he can do my barrel then have him re-coat it....I wonder what mossberg would charge to recoat it though

that is big bucks.... that sux, you had a real nice mosburg.. and still do.. can you see anyof the finish gone?

The receiver is anaodized black and the other parts are parkerized....I just e-mailed a couple places for prices on duracoat jobs...I think Ill send the barrel to Vang Comp to get done before I re-finish it
