    help identify this ammo?

I think the language is Finnish, this is the small thumbnail from my Flickr:

the comment from the stream I made is: "a friend gave me a bunch of boxes of this - 25per box, it looks and feels like regular 9mm Luger. I want to get more details before feeding it into a pistol." (*)

anyone up on their foreign ammo? clicking the link below will get you to larger images (bottom right, "different sizes" link) - way too large for posting on a forum here.

I can add a semi-helpful comment that the friend who gave it to me fired a whole bunch of it through a Ruger P89 and still has all his fingers and face is intact.

Thanks on the NATO -- do any of those numericals make sense to anyone, telling us what weight it is?

edit: ok I've figured out 'kpl' means like pieces or portions, so that's the number of rounds in the box.

I may be wrong but doesnt NATO ammo usually say NATO on the package? If this says NATO 9mm then its good to go, if your buddy has already shot a bunch then I think youre in the clear. fire when ready.

It's Finnish. 1966 production. The VPT headstamp was used for years. Lots of Russian 7.62x54R made in the 60's was made by VPT.

Generally considered to be very high quality. Try it on paper and see how it compares with WWB.

ETA Finland wasn't then and still isn't a Nato member.

              It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

Thanks! I've annotated the pic again, most helpful - much appreciated. Do you think this stuff is "special" and I should hold onto it for any reason instead of shooting it up?

All I can say is "the boxes look really, really cool".

I shot a lot of this stuff back in the 1970's. Used it in a Smith M39 and a P-38. It was accurate and clean, but seemed pretty darn hot. Used to get it from Golden State Arms, back in the day.....

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

shot a box of it today, it's definitely hot - puppies have some kick, they *boom* instead of *crack* too. They seem to be an eensy weensy bit larger than a Federal luger, I had trouble getting more than 9 per mag - the 10th would go in 2/3rds-ish and just stop.
