Question about the Smith&Wesson 629 classic

I have a chance to get ahold of a Smith classic 629 5in' 44 mag. Now i know this guy has owned this for around 17 years and is like brand new. I looked at some current prices and find them to be very high priced. Now i know what he gave for it along time ago and is less than what is priced for a brand new one at budsguns. My question is, is there any difference in the build or collectability of the the 17 year old one and one bought new today? Also the old school one has the wood smith logo grips on it which make it look so much better. I want this bad at the price i would get it for i am hoping that the older model is worth the same or more as the current one for sale. Is there a value difference?

The old one does not have the lock or is pre Kim. Get the old. Trust me

Supposed to be mim, iPhone auto corrected. It is metal injection moulding.

Any idea as to price difference in value? Could i expect to have more value in the older model? Or are they basically the same in value as the same gun?

Well from values that i have seen i would say that it is more desireable but the same value. Shame for such a old school smith. But i am still gonna jump on it. Thanks I guess it is safe to say that the baseline price on a used one would be average of $700.00 give or take.
