    Turner's Reseda

Yet another reason to avoid Turners at all costs. A friend of mine recently got into firearms and purchased an AR. He and the seller agreed to meet up at Turner's in Reseda for the transfer. They walk in with only the complete lower (no upper attached) and are told that they can't do the transfer because they don't deal with anything related to "assault weapons."

Refusing to PPT an OLL yet having them for sale in the stores as well as advertised in the spring flyer seems a bit... hypocritical?

Oh well, I guess I really shouldn't expect any less from that **** hole.
    My buyer/seller feedback.

did you end up having to sell just the stripped lower with the parts separate? i wonder how that would've gone down?

And I was just in there today holding a Franklin Armory single-shot AR-15 pistol, and was told *exactly* the correct legalities regarding installing a 10rd magazine, but needing to be sold with a sled.

I'd call a manager, some of the guys over there are dicks, some are great.

I'm the guy who was buying the lower. My second gun. The guy I was buying it from took a number, and we waited no less than thirty minutes to get called.

When called we said we were there for a private party transfer. The next words out of the Turner's employee's mouth were, "Not with that, you're not."

I didn't argue legality or anything. Just took my business elsewhere.

Proactive customer service would have been to ASK two guys who are waiting to be helped if they're planning on PPT'ing the AR lower the're holding BEFORE thirty minutes go by. Maybe they were busy and didn't notice. Nobody's perfect.

But spouting off "Not with that, you're not" is the kind of thing I'd say to a stranger trying to walk into my house with drugs, not the kind of thing I'd say to someone I want to spend money in my store.

I might give Turner's in West Covina one more trip, but if I have another bad experience I'll be looking around for another store. Crappy, arrogant customer service without an "I'm sorry" doesn't deserve my business.

Edit: To Nemisis1400: Nope, couldn't strip the lower. The guy's exact words were, "We don't transfer anything that can be turned into an assault weapon." In hindsight maybe I should have asked him exactly what items on the wall couldn't be turned into assault weapons. Didn't want to make him look foolish though. Just wanted to do the PPT.

On one hand, it's good that you didn't make a scene, as soon as you left he would have made you out to be the prick, but then again, once he said, "not with that," you know you're not doing business with him, so why not let it fly? Anyway, the only thing I buy from them, from time to time, is reloading components. With L.A.'s sales tax at close to 10%, I'll wait 'till I'm closer to home now. Camarillo shooter supply is reasonable.

Since Turner's is a relativeally a small So Cal operation, has any one here given thought to writing some letters/e-mails to their corporate headquarters? And share your bad experiences a lot of you have had in their various stores? 'Cuz it seems to me that Turner's is only batting around .500 with their customer service......

I personally have not had a bad experience, just keep hearing about them. You bring up a valid point. If I do have an issue, you can bet that I will fire off an e-mail. Members should post Turner's responses too.

Though I've been shopping at various Turners since the '70's for misc. sporting goods stuff, I finally bought my first firearm from them last month at their Signal Hill location, and that transaction went down as smooth as a shot of 17 y/old Flora de Cana rum......

I've had good luck with the guys at Turners Redondo location. Unfortunately, the two times I have been to the one in Reseda convinced me never to return there.
I'm a pretty polite customer and easy to deal with. I don't like being made to feel as if it's my privilege to be in someone's shop spending money and and honor to have the people working there give me a minute of their time.
They don't get my business in Reseda.

I thought an FFL couldn't refuse a PPT if it was a type that they sold. Am I confused on the law?
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

+1 for Signal Hill Turners. I would say they are as good as a Turners is gonna get..

I wonder if the fact that the Turners in question is one of the few FFL's in LA city has anything to do with it? Buying guns in LA city limits is whole 'nother set of bull****...

I've heard that they may have been required to do that PPT. I believe FFL's are somewhat restricted in their ability to pick and choose PPT deals. Something to do with the fact that they are fulfilling the requirement of the law (registering sales) and it's not different than 'voluntary' retail transactions.

If they don't sell handguns they are not required to PPT handguns but otherwise they are performing the service as it's a requirement of the law (also correlated with the legally fixed fee). If they sell OLL AR's then they probably can't even bifurcate the long gun question (we PPT shotguns because we sell shotguns we don't sell AR's so we don't PPT AR's).

Maybe a call to DOJ can confirm? It won't help your deal but it could be a public service to prevent others from being hosed further.

I'm getting really sick of Turners. First they ding me, then they try to sell a guy something he didn't ask for. Then all these stories. I'm gonna buy a Gunsite 308, but it won't be from them, even if it is on sale.
