Which reloading manual for 1st time reloader?

I'm starting to get together some extra money to invest in reloading gear. I am starting off with some match 308, then 223 and 9mm to follow after.

What are your favorite manuals to start off with?

    I saw the Lyman 49th Edition....Speer...etc

Depends on your needs. For just recipes I use my Lee 2nd edition and Hodgdon's webpage. For a "how to" the videos on youtube are great or check out the reloading forum there are some really good stickies.

      I like Load Books

Give you the recipe for your caliber from all the manuals. Its good for comparison for working new loads.

I am 100% new to reloading. I have seen some Youtube videos on how it is done, so I know the steps etc.

ABC's of reloading, Lee's, Hornady, Lyman, they're all pretty good. The main thing is to always have at least 2 references and make sure any prospective load falls somewhere in the range on both of them. Mistakes are rare but they do happen.

Keep in mind that most of the books have information specific to their brand. For example, Hornady has info for their bullets, Speer has info for their bullets, Hodgen has info for many bullet manufactures but using their powder...etc

I read the previous version of ABCs of Reloading. I found it to be more of a history of reloading with some interesting terminology but NO LOAD DATA. Lyman 49th was awesome felt like I was reading a really helpful textbook it had alright load data. I then went and got the Lee Modern Reloading 2nd edition and wow its got tons of reloading data. Im fairly happy with what I have and feel its a decent range of books at least to start with.

Honestly I learned most from watching and talking to other calgunners. The books were great for "Why's" but watching the mechanics was much more valuable. I read the books first just to understand the dangers and dont do's.

Those are the two I got when I started about 6 months ago. Still got em and they have worked perfectly for me.

Read ABCs cover to cover. It will help with the process and how to be safe. Videos don't go slow enough or thorough enough for total learning. Schools and the Military both use manuals to get it in you. videos are supplemental only.
For load data use lee and hornaday. Sierra loads are way hot. You should look at three sources for data. Powder manufacture that you are using. Bullet maker you are using but be wary of max Sierra load data. Start at their minimum and check it to the powder manufacture.
Also be vary wary of intranet recipes . Even avoid them if they don't fall within the specs published in books.
                              Be safe first of all.
