Tax owed on FTF PPT handled @ FFL?

Well, I used the search function, but it seems most questions were tied to PPT's coming into CA from out of state, so.......I'm still not clear. Today I did my first PPT at a gun store here in CA. I was the buyer. The transaction was between another (non-FFL) individual and myself.....no consignment involved. The deal was made outside of the FFL, and the dealer ONLY provided transfer paperwork service. Do I owe tax to the state? If so, how do I pay it?
    Thank you in advance.

You owe them nothing, the tax was paid when the gun was sold and there are no established tax rules for PPT. Though it does make you wonder how they can tax some things repeatedly, kinda shifty eh???

Technically, they could claim tax is due and they need to collect to keep the BOE off their arse. But that's a ssstttrrreettcchhh.

BUT as far as the dealer is concerned the cost is $0. So if he wants to be a dick let him calculate 9.25% (or whatever your county rate is) of $0.00 and they can collect that.

The $35 is fees, non-taxable event. Basically the FFL does not get to create some extra profit because PPT fees are not very lucrative (if he did figure a basis to calculate you KNOW that's not going to the BOE).

No Tax, you did not buy it from the store. It's PPT's.
