Any problems getting a C&R license in LA County?

Anybody have any problems getting a C&R license in LA County?

I realize the application goes to ATF. But as a requirement, a copy of the application needs to be sent first to the Chief Law Enforcement Officer "of the locality in which the premises is located". I could be wrong, but maybe the locality has the ability to recommend to ATF to decline your application.

With things already tough in LA County with regard to gun law, I'm wondering if I can get resistance here with my application.

Can you tell me more about the cetificate of eligibility thing? I sent off my atf C&R forms already but didn't know anything about this additional requirement.

COE is not required to use your C&R especially on out of state purchases. Where the COE comes in handy if you want to purchase a C&R (i think) handgun within the state, you still fill out the DROS but you do not have to wait the 10 days for pickup. I believe that it also voids the one hand gun in 30 day requirement. C&R is not good on milsurp purchases with a CA dealer you still have to wait the 10 days. I cannot remember if the COE is valid for long guns...

The C&R process is painless, and had mine within a month, of course that was a few years ago. And yes you make copies and send to your local LEO, I never got a reply from them.

The COE is not mandatory unless you are puchasing from a California dealer and want to avoid the 10 day waiting period.

I don't know where you got your figures for COE issue times, but DOJ is a lot faster than that. I got mine in less than two weeks, with renewals running about the same.

They can only recommend the ATF decline your application if there is something which would make you ineligible to purchase a firearm, record, pending charges, etc. Also LA County may not even enter into it. If the city you live in has its own PD then you send it to the local chief of police. He is the CLEO for your locality. Only send it to the sheriff if you live some place with no PD. Finally don't try to deliver it in person. Nobody will no what to do with it and will likely just try to send you some where else. Get the address of their web site, address the envelope to the chief or sheriff and drop it in the mail. This fulfils the requirement and you will most likely never hear from the local guys about it.

Definition, Miriam Webster's dictionary: "Average - 1.a: a single value (as a mean, mode or median) that summarizes or represents the general significance of a set of unequal values"

In everyday usage, the term "average" is generally assumed to be the aritmetic mean (which is one of the three possible options in defining averages), so that's why you probably don't equate the terms "average" and "median" together.

Sorry I had to pull that out but I was a math major at UCLA.

Nope, no problems here. I got my C&R in about 3 weeks a couple years ago. I got my COE a couple months ago and it took about 2 weeks from mailing it. Again, the COE is not REQUIRED for your C&R, but I'm very glad I have it now. No more worrying about the 1 handgun in 30 day restriction.

Cool! I've just completed the C&R application form and will mail it out today. I'll prepare for the COE, too, and will make an appointment for a LiveScan facility for my fingerprints.
