How do you clean off your cosmoline?

I know this is probably a dupe x1000 but I just want to know what you guys do when you get your AK parts kit covered in cosmoline. Do you throw it in the dishwasher? I don't know if there is any in the barrel but how do I get it all out most efficiently. Pop it in the oven? I don't want to compromise the integrity of the wood or metal so ya.

Unleaded regular. But it is too scary. Still, that is what I use.

      With more cosmoline of course.

Heat gun or blow dryer will make it come off real quick. Or taking it apart and laying it in the sunshine will work too.

I toss them in the parts washer at work and then dry them off with the air hose, no messy hands.

Will it ruin my dishwasher or give it a bad smell if a throw the parts in there?

For my Mosins, I use a "Shark hand held" steam cleaner! (you don't have to use that brand, it was just the most cost effective for me).
I separated the metal from the wood and used it on both. It cleaned the metal with ease and I just drained the crap on a rag. Worked very well. Then went easy on the wood, wipeing constantly. Did not damage the wood at all(you must use caution and watch how it goes). Worked well for me and my mosins, I imagine if you are careful it will work for all other guns coated in cosmoline!

OP...you DO NOT want that crap in your dishwasher or the pipes (if you own your home)!

I've used this method on several occasions...

TLDR: put some Mineral Spirits in a plastic pail and wash down the parts.

Stick em in a plastic bag and leave em in the sun for a few hours. Have a few beers then come back with a rag and wipe em down. For some of the more stubborn pieces I run some water through the coffee maker (no coffee) and stick the parts in a bucket or shallow tray, pour the hot water over them and wipe down.

I've never done it, but when I do I'm gonna reread this thread and this http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/mos...-firearms.html link I found earlier today.

Wrap with newspaper. Put in black plastic garbage bag. Put in another bag. Tape 'em shut real good.

Leave on the dashboard of your car on a hot, sunny day with the windows rolled up.

Works splendidly on CMP rifles, should work on AK's too.

I use mineral spirits to wash the cosmoline off. If it is soaked into the stock, I use the bag on the dashboard trick.
