Remember When You Could Buy These Firearms By Mail Order?

    A blast from the past...

Prior to the Gun Control Act of 1968, you could buy almost any firearm that struck your fancy by mail order.

Born in '70. I see the M1 carbine has held it's value a bit better than my house.

I'm amazed at how we go through 2 World Wars and suddenly the Gov't doesn't trust people with guns anymore.

I can't order a current military rifle and have it delivered directly to my door like the old days.

I think I remember reading somewhere that there was actually a time when you could buy a Thompson, through the mail, from Sears Robuck.

You could buy a Solothurn through the mail too.

I might have read it in that crazy anarchist book, Unintended Consequences...

                      LOL

Aren't you glad he scratched it!
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

I remember you used to be able to buy AK parts kits off Ebay.

Yes, I remember seeing the ads, although I was 13 and couldn't buy anything.

Well, when that ad was run, the M1 and M1 carbine weren't current. You can get them delivered to your door (if you can get the carbine mag deal worked out) in California with a 03 license. From CMP, you might be able to get both, but certainly the M1, without a license, but, admittedly, some hoops to jump through.

And, back in those days, you had to fill out a form and send in a check or money order. No CC, bank draft, paypal (haha), Gunpal (HAHA).

Yes it isn't like it was, but a dark curtain has not yet dropped over online gun sales. In fact, if not for the prices (which might be relevant), I don't know what the point of this thread is.
