I just bought an airsoft handgun that shoots bb's. I was just wondering if I can shoot it in my back yard. My backyard runs up against a hill and have neighbors on my sides however I am not going to be shooting towards any houses, question is can I shoot cans in backyard or is it illegal in Kalifornia.

Are you in the City of San Diego or in the County or ...?
This map might help: http://www.sdsheriff.net/documents/shooting_map.pdfComment

I am in the gray area, specifically Mira Mesa, but I could not find anywhere in the pdf stating about airsoft. In the pdf was just stating explosive devices are not allowed in some of those areas but nothing about compressed CO2. I will try calling the City's Attorney.Comment

Call from work cause if they ask where you live, how many airsoft GUNS you have and will be terrorizing innocent citizens from your unsecured backyard, if they are locked or unlocked in the presence of children, etc., I suggest hanging up.
I am not making it up. I live in RP on a dead end and a few years ago the boys in the neighborhood were having "airsoft wars" just after sunset one summer eve. About 10 SDPD showed up to put an end to it and threatend to take the kids to jail, along with the parents, if they had to respond to the boys "terrorizing the neighborhood" again.
For the life of us, none of the parents could figure out who would call. The best we could figure is somebody on a street above us who could see the boys from their backyard did it. NOT Funny how when someone complains about something and the cops come running. And then if you have a reason, such as a spouse made threats or missing person the response is get a restraining order or call us in 24 hrs. Not bagging on LEOs at all, They get the call and they respond, which is good. But just because "someone complained" doesn't mean that hell has to come down.Call from work cause if they ask where you live, how many airsoft GUNS you have and will be terrorizing innocent citizens from your unsecured backyard, if they are locked or unlocked in the presence of children, etc., I suggest hanging up.

Boys being boys, give them some advice about where to have fun and you never know they might grow up to be LEOs themselves.l
