    Ultrasonic Cleaner

I noticed a new type of Ultrasonic Cleaner from Hornady. I took it a step further and checked other commercial brands that were a larger capacity, anolg controlers for heat and time. My intent is for cleaning brass. But would it be recommended to clean your guns. Some have the polycabonate trays that rather then resting your handguns on a steel surface that would not be good for the finish. Reasonbly priced at $495.00. And specically made for firearms.

I would recommend them for gun parts. I use one for final cleaning extractors, springs, and other small parts including bolts after they have been scrubbed first of bulk debris. I use them for larger firearms parts such as uppers and lowers before they are finished and before anodizing but I would be careful about large parts after the final coating has been applied.

The polymer trays for holding the parts may work, but I would try it on a junk part with a similar finish to test it before cleaning a good gun. If you have power level control, do not run it at a high level, just run it longer. SSTL parts are great in this cleaner. A heated bath with the proper detergent is important. I do final rinse in DI water and then a hot air box blow dryer.

Thanks for the recomendation. I do have all metal handguns from revolvers, 1911's, 22 target and 9mm's. The time element for cleaning is substancially reduced. Including brass. I like the warm bath and the warm drying consempt. What is the cleaning solution to be used?

For the ultrasonic tank, I use SF1, solvent free de-greaser concentrate that is biodegradable and phosphate-free made by L&R. I buy it by the gallon (best price) from McMaster-Carr. Just follow the directions on the side of the container and it will last many years.

I just use a auto mech dunk tank with small parts, Since i work on cars at home why not use it on gun parts.
