Lots o FUD in this thread.

First, the ATF will issue a FFL to anyone who isn't prohibited. If you don't check with your local zoning and just apply for an FFL, you will get one. Then zoning won't give you a business license and then you will have a $200 government document handy for proving your residency and that is it. The CA DOJ also does not care where your shop or business is, they just care that you have all of the documents so they will give you a CFD. No local business license, no CFD.

Second, it is true that the ATF needs a warrant to search your home. They also don't just show up whenever they want most times, especially if you are home based without any regular hours because you have a day job.

Still that being said, check on your insurance costs and ask yourself if you really want to have people calling you all the time for gun quotes and asking when to pick up their guns. A home transfer agent can be a decent gig as it will give you a few extra bucks and you will get guns cheaper, but it also can be time consuming.

Eventually people start to realize time is money and the time spent doing the things you really want to be doing instead of looking up gun prices, answering e-mails, auditing paperwork, and dealing with customers is better time spent.

If you want to trust the ATF and CA DOJ to play by the rules that's your business. You couldn't pay me enough to invite those people into my home. Just like I wouldn't invite a vampire into my home and for the same reasons!

Seriously, even if they do follow the rules how hard do you think it would be for them to find probable cause to search anything and anywhere they want based on what they "find" in your garage? Again, no thanks.

I'm glad others will do it though, it keeps my costs down!

          Not to mention:

          1.) Large-capacity magazine permit
          2.) Suppressors.

It is stated in my towns code that you can not have a home base firearms business. But you can have a CPA business which has more traffic.

Standard FFL does NOT get you Suppressors in CA. Sorry.

                FUD.

I was an FFL after about $400 and 3 months. I live in Tehama County. Super easy. The ATF and DOJ could not have been more helpful.

If a standard FFL pays the transfer tax, he is exempt from owning/possession.

Or he can pay for a class 3 SOT, and purchase them without a transfer tax.

Contrary to popular belief, standard type 01 and 07 FFL's *ARE* licensed to transfer any NFA weapons without a SOT. They just can't do them regularly.

I could be wrong (I probably am) but I thought you had to keep some kind of regular hours. Or could you just say you are open 1 hour a week and then do transfers whenever you want?

Damn, now you have me thinking about an FFL again.

My county doesn't require a business license unless you are within city limits which I am not. So what would I need besides the FFL, a separate gun safe, insurance, and signs?

You don't need a separate gun safe. If your personal guns are in the safe, tag them as such.
