    Traveling from CA to FL

Let's say I'm flying from CA to FL. I'm not checking in baggage. What is the best way to get my gun to my destination? Can I overnight FedEx it to myself at my mother-in-law's house? Then FedEx it back to myself? or should I just pick up my father-in-law's gun he has there and carry it? He passed away some time ago and it's an old luger or 1911. Is it legel for me to carry a gun not registered to me? I do have my FL CWP. How difficult will it be to buy ammo there?

Also If I FedEx the gun, most likely my 442, can I also FedEx 15 rounds of ammo in three speed loaders?

    All suggestions welcome.

Not checking in baggage...carry on only. M-I-L will be picking us up 6am on the red eye. Won't want to wait around for luggage.

You could carry what's all ready out their. Ammo shouldn't be a problem. The right holster might be.

I can't speak to FL CCW laws, but I'd hate like hell to shoot someone with a Luger & have to kiss the gun goodbye, so I'd want something else for carry. FedEx overnight is I think the way to go so long as you address the gun to yourself. I think the cost is about $45.00 each way.

Just to relate my recent experience - I was very much set on mailing my Beretta 9000 to my NH home for a return trip by car to CA. But the crew here convinced me checked baggage was easier. I'd only relate that when I went to Delta in SFO I got a very quick check in, went directly to TSA and my bag was at the turnstyle when I hit Logan Airport. All went well. Besides, I have to say it was great fun racking the slide at the counter with a group of San Fran folks standing by & watching.

I did mail a package to myself instead of carrying on or in checked baggage. A box of cigars - Punch, Macanudo, Partagas & some Cohibas. UPS managed to lose the damn thing, they arrived one day after I left. I'm told my friends enjoyed them.
