    tax on consignment purchases?!

i was at my local gunstore in westminster to DROS a used 686+ pre-lock. i was stoked to see how much money i would be saving vs buying a new one since a NIB would cost me about 829+tax and tax is always not a fun thing to pay for especially on expensive items. the guy over the counter said that i was in luck, not only the seller of the consignment is selling it pretty cheap but soon they're going to include tax on the use guns as well. i was like no way, its not like we would pay new tax on a used car so why would we pay an extra tax on a used gun? anyways, i guess for the time being no tax on my purchase. any of you guys heard of this being implementing elsewhere?

Tax must be collected for anything sold in inventory that is tangible property. Consignment guns become inventory when put on the shelf.... therefore they require sales tax to be collected on the sail (mainly because the shop doing the business is listed as a retail establishment and the BoE want their dough).

everything is taxed. used cars are taxed, generally at the dmv.

        yeah you would.

even if you are given it as a gift, you have to pay tax based on the 'fair market value'

and if you buy a car for $1 (i have before), they make you declare the value of the car ( value to who? blue book? value to someone with 5 cars already?) and pay tax based on that.
