      When I first started working on a armorned car (1986), I checked out the wepons. When I unloaded the 30 round mag to the M-1 carbine I had to pour out the last 8 rounds because the spring would no longer bring the ammo to the feed lips.

      I asked how long the magazine had been loaded, the employee who had been there since 1962 told me not since he had been there.

      Standard practice of Safeing the Weapon was: pulling the magazine and checking the chamber. Reinsert the magazine and put the M-1 away.
