In the Sacramento area I've seen the military surplus ammo cans at Just Guns, River City Gun Exchange and TDS Guns in Rocklin. Gun Shows are a sure bet. Prices from $7 to $15 each.

You can buy them online too but shipping makes them more expensive. Unless they're full of ammo, that's usually a good deal.

If you store rounds loose, then it doesn't matter. If you store them in original packaging I prefer the Cabela's dry-storage boxes. They're bigger so you can more easily fit/arrange different size cardboard boxes (of ammo). I don't think they flex much at all and are actually quite strong.

Gotta love those metal cans, but the plastic MTMs are nice and stackable.

I have some of the ones from Cabelas, they were free. Pretty much a tacklebox with a seal around the top. I definitely wouldn't have paid any money for them but it's fine that they came with the ammo, they're containers to store stuff in.

I bought a plastic one from Ammo Bros a while back.
9mm ammo: I have 5 winchester white box(115gr.), 2 Magtech boxes(124g), 2 fiocchi boxes (115gr), 2 boxes of American Eagle shtuff(115gr), a box of Hornady critical defense (25 rounds, 115gr). Rimfire: Winchester Xpert HV (500 rounds, forgot the grain), box of CCI mini mag hollowpoints(100 rounds).

Heavy load(imo) and the handle doesn't feel like it's going to break off, the can is fine. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another! Think it was $13
