    Choosing Indoor Range (Bakersfield)

Need help choosing between two indoor ranges in Bakersfield and with gas prices the way they are 5 Dogs Range seems less attractive. I want to get a second opinion and first hand accounts on two shops: 2nd Amendment or Ole Boy Outdoors. Customer service wise I LOVE Ole Boy is better, friendlier staff, and nobody tells you why this is better than that. Havent really looked into the details on the ranges (rules, #of lanes, allow people to pick up their brass, etc).

I've found that 2nd Amendment is cheaper price wise for a membership (170 vs 195 @ Ole Boy). Both is for one year membership, no extra charge when I come. Rentals give the edge to 2nd Amendment because of their wider selection of handguns to try out compared to only 3 at Ole Boy. I've been to both places just to buy shooting stuff and Ole Boy is closer to where I live by maybe 5 minutes. Still both are generally closer compared to 5 Dogs, so distance is not an issue between the two.

I've used the gunsmithing services at 2nd Amendment. Never used their range, though.

Take a look over at calccw.com and do a search. What I have seen posted recently there is that Ole Boys now has a new location and awsome people and range. Lots of members in your area give it really high praise. 2nd Amd....again just what I see posted, bunch of a-holes, bad service, guys who don't know a lot but try to BS you into thinking they do, etc..Good Luck!

        Go with Ole Boys.

Rental gun snafu will be fixed soon...distributor problem....obo is a rifle range too

Like Craig says, You can shoot rifles at OB's

And like .22guy says "F#%@ Second Amendment!" I'd rather drive to 5 Dogs than shoot for free at Second Amendment.

Haha thanks everyone for the comments. Basically reinforces everything what I once thought about 2nd Amendment. Hoped the cheaper membership and wider selection on handgun rental would change my mind. As for the gun rentals improving at Ole Boy, I'll give them that because they just moved over to their new location (literally a block away from their old one) and its super close to where I live. My coworker's father did the flooring in the facility.

Last time I checked (3 months ago) they didnt have a smith. They just wrote down some guys name and number on a piece of paper and see ya! Havent checked up at 2nd, but i know Ole Boy has one in house.

depends on what you want to shoot. 5 Dogs is the cheapest since $10 covers ALL day and you can shoot rifle, pistol AND shotgun. 20 Station Sporting Clays, etc. Plus several active clubs including IPSC and Cowboy Action Shooting!

20 minute drive for one of the best ranges around!

I say, eff em both (except for Slabsides He's a great guy) get your guns and accessories at 10% or Get a Gun. Then shoot IDPA at Taft and 5 dogs, then shoot USPSA at 5dogs then you'll have your pistol fix done. While shooting pistol matches at 5dogs bring your rifles and hit the rifle range on the way out.
                    Done!
Although Calgunner Slabsides is the range master at ol boys, and He's a kinda alright guy

Im with everyone else, stick with ole boy. I shot there a couple of weekends ago and the range is great. I have made some purchases through them before as well, great staff and very knowledgeable on current laws. Plus the gunsmith at ole boy is great too. I will never go back to 2nd Amendment again, they treated me like trash. I would pay the extra money, just for the better service. Just my .02...

I was a member at 2nd Amendment when I spent more time in Bakersfield. When I went back to visit my family I was extraordinarily annoyed when the basic 20 dollar membership meant I had to buy their ammo. I've never been to Ole Boys but I'd skip 2nd Amendment just for that horrible policy alone.

I use Rafael for all my OLL and handgun purchases and he's a stand up guy. The range master at Ole Boy is very cool. Went in today to ask a few questions and he is helpful without being rude or condescending As for 5 Dogs, I dont plan on turning my back on them anytime soon. Fantastic place to go and spend all day shooting. But for convenience and like I said earlier, gas prices aint wanting to play nice, and I would like that luxury to just get off school and the hospital and go straight to the range. Get paid tomorrow so I'm sold on Ole Boy unless someone can convince me otherwise.

As for FFL's in the Bakersfield area, haven't tried 10% because he's out in Taft, and Im less than 3 minutes away from either Get A Gun or MGM Tactical. Raf, Aaron, and Jeremy all cool guys.

"I say, eff em both..." Dude...HARSH!

Thank you all for the kind words about the range and the shop. We try our best not to hire a bunch of know it all wise arses. We are all shooters and hunters and know how we like to be treated when we go out to shop, and try to treat folks the same way.

As to the range, safety is the name of the game. I was hired for no other purpose than to be Range Master. I don't leave the range desk and the HD monitors because it's boring and I'd rather try to sell a Sig or Tikka to someone. I seldom have time to head out front to play anyways.

I'd love to meet some CalGunners. Come on by and introduce yourselves.

                              Wayne.
