Desert Eagle - how do you know which one is a mark VII and which is the mark XIX

I might of found Desert Eagle in 44 magnum, not sure if its a VII or an XIX which could be easly converted to the 50ae. So if there is no box do i go by the serial number or is it scrolled on the gun somewhere.

The mark xix is bigger. The barrel dovetail on top of the mark vii is 3/8 inch. It is 7/8 on the mark xix.

      Seconding the barrel dovetail.

The older Mark VII's had a very narrow dovetail on the .357 and .44mag barrels and a much fatter one on the .50AE barrels.

The Mark XIX has the same width dovetail for both the .50AE and .44mag barrels.

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.
