See http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=338146 for exactly the same issue with another 870.

As stated earlier, Kroil + fine bronze wool to remove rust, Eezox and a dehumidifier for your safe to prevent rust.
    Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

This stuff works great. I have a serious humidity problem in my Condo (to the point that even my stainless steel firearms develop rust) and after getting the rust off with bronze wool and light oil I cleaned them and wiped them down with these. Havent had a problem since (even with the hideaway piece I have in the bathroom)

Another source for large quantity's of desiccant is the aviation industry, if you know an A&P or any one who works around aircraft parts in the military or airline industry, ask if they can get you some, when our engines arrive, they normally are shipped in containers with four or five large bags of desiccant, some of these bags are filled with 2 or 3 lbs or more of desiccant.

Just make sure to bake it every so often to remove the moisture, I take mine out of the safe once a month and bake it in the tobacco bag for a couple hours at 300F Most of the desiccant I've seen in the airline industry is a bright beautiful blue color, as it absorbs moisture it turns pink, when it's pink, bake it, the moisture evaporates out and the crystals turn blue again. one aircraft we operated used tubes of this to defog windows, we could use it over and over and over.
