    LPK Question

I am building my first AR 15 and just received my Sun Devil Billet lower. I also purchased a Geisselle SSA Trigger. I want something that will be nice but not kill the bank account. I realized that a LPK would be easier to ensure I get all the springs and pins instead of buying individual parts. I was looking at the LMT or Colt, but for the price and since I already will use an after market trigger does it really matter if I used a stag or rra instead. If there is a noticable difference I do not mind paying a little more. I am very new to this whole thing and have researced often, but it can get a little overwhelming at times.

    Thanks.

Lpk's are all the same. I know they sell kits that don't include the trigger assembly or pistol grip. Can save you a couple bucks. Other than that, they all have mil spec parts. Pretty sure they all get there roll pins, springs, etc from the same suppliers. Don't waste any money buying brand name.

Oh, and if you install parts kit yourself, have the right tools. Easy to ruin your lower by scratching or gouging it using wrong tools.

Its the easiest thing in the world. Just remember to put all the little springs and pins in a bowl and only pull out one pin or spring at a time as you put things together. By looking at the size, shape, and quantity, you can figure out what goes where. You should not have any extra parts left when the build is complete. Make sure you use a small pin hammer or equivalent to tap in the bolt catch lever pin. Make sure you already have your stock assembly in order to put the spring and rear takedown pin detent pin in place. The only specialized tool you need is a stock wrench and they go for about $8.

Easy for sure. My first build I used the wrong tool to install bolt catch pin, it slipped and I gouged the black finish. Totally bummed me out.

I would beg to differ. Some of the lower tier LPKs are out of spec and LPKs do vary in quality.

Many LPKs include an extra detent pin or two...

I only used DPMS,POF, and Stag LPK's. No extra parts. Can't speak for other brands.

                  Hmmm...

Two of the Stag LPKs I've used each contained two extra detent pins...

Hmmm.... interesting.... i built the Stag two years ago and bought the lpk through their web site. Maybe those things are still in my tool chest, don't think so...

Ah! DON'T FORGET TO DO A FUNCTION CHECK! On my first build i found out i was missing a tinny spring that goes in the trigger group during my function check. It's a learning process.

Palmetto State has package that comes with standard pistol grip, Magpul pistol grip and CTR stock with a SSA trigger and parts kit for $370?

I used a DPMS parts kit for my second build and the roll pins were a PITA! I have since read some one else having the same problem and a remark that DPMS roll pins are too big but I am not that experienced with LPKs to say one way or the other. Just my experience wasn't pleasant.

There are numerous videos on youtube showing how to put the parts together and it goes pretty quick. I started midway through the first quarter of the Super Bowl and was done by halftime. And that was with wife, dogs and child around.

Use blue painters tape to avoid scuffing your lower. Cover anything you can.

Thanks, I went with a RRa lpk plus they dropped it 25$ bucks becuase I didnt need the trigger, It installed smooth except I broke the pin in the damn bolt catch... I hope to fix it tomorrow. I also picked up a RRA Op. CAR stock kit and a magpul adjustable grip for about $190 for all three, so its coming along. Thanks for the help.
