Finally got my DSL back on.

After finally paying off Verizon, the DSL man graced me with Hi-Speed once again....

What happened was my wife ran up about $400 in long distance calling Nevada and Arizona talking to relatives. Our DSL plan didnt originally have long distance, but she (and I too) thought it did.

When the bill came due, there was no option but to let them shut it off and make payments. I made the last payment on Friday and Mr. DSL-man turned the thing back on yesterday.

I decided to take the day off of work. Ive been working at Labor Ready mostly for a whopping $45 a day, along with whatever house plans come my way. As a result Ive been buried in work, er slavery I mean. When you work @ Labor Ready (here anyway) you gotta BE THERE at 4:30am or you don't get squat for jobs, let alone a potentially "good" one.

Ive been doing crap like helping Circus' move (no joke) breaking down and cleaning up churches!, cleaning public areas like parks and such, and even going and doing small amounts of demo on old buildings. With Labor Ready you do something different everyday. The only GOOD thing is my foreman usually buys us lunch on top of our "wages" which at $7 for a decent lunch is appreciated (I usually bring my lunch unless they're paying, it dont come out of your wages)

Anyway, you get up at around 3:45-4:00, haul grass over to the shop and put your name in for that days bids. You get assigned your job and then usually get told to be BACK at the shop by 7:30 or so. Thats right you gotta come 2 times unless you wanna camp out in your car. Im lucky I live close by so I can go back home and nap a little.

Anyway once you get your job, they assign you a person to carpool with (which gets you 24 cents a mile for gas, helps anyway) and you go. Once you're at the job you get union-type hours with 10min break at 10 and 2 and 1/2hr for lunch. Usually the jobs are over at 4 but Ive been working till 5 and 6 when I get the chance for the hours. On the days you work at 6 you're pulling 14-15 hour day so its really tiring, especially for this couch potato desk-jockey with back injuries.

Ive been lucky enough to usually be able to trade my job with someone else when it involves "back" work... I can't work over my head either so it seriously limits my abilities but at this point I don't have tons of options for ways to bring in the dough... Ive been doing as many house plans as I can, and on the weeks when I get those jobs I don't go work @ labor ready.

I just wanted to update, even tho the DSL is back on I probably won't be able to spend tons of time back on the site like before, at least until the $$$ income picks up. Quite simply I have very little time after working to spend on the PC. Hell I was up till 2am last night working on my wife's car (POS keeps over heating from bad A/C fan relay keeping BOTH fans off...cheap bosch relay and a rewire fixed that)

When weekends come I end up sleeping as much as I can and then try to do the "honey-do" shi'ite that comes up without fail...

So basically everything is OK. Im not living in a tunnel smoking crack with Gary Coleman, I haven't lost my house yet, altho the contents have been significantly thinned out. I haven't been shooting in about 6 months, Id love to go one day and get out with some of the CalGuns crew to blow off steam. I haven't had many "good" human interactions lately (except Ajax, man thank you for all your help!!!)

To top it all off, I was cleaning my fixed mag AR and dreaming of a day I could shoot and this crap happened:

The latch broke clean off around the pivot pin, like the hole was out of spec and got shear-force on it. The circle is pointing out the "cute" (NOT) little mouse stamp. It was ID'd at ARF.com as a "SHERLUK" brand handle

So today Im gonna try to repair the offending piece with a piece of 6061T6 aluminum I have that is .125" thick (same as latch) Altho Im gonna re-work the angles so it has less shear force imposed on it. If it works OK I might try making one from steel as well for my other upper. I also had the idea to try and find a pefect sized rubber band to use as an expedient "emergency" latch, in-field. Basically just wrap it from ear to ear on the CH around the rear sight. The correct length would allow a full stroke and would retain the handle. A broke latch would be horrendous in combat. This failure makes me seriously want one of those side-charging AR uppers (or try to hack my own with a FAL charger or a moving one w/a bolt in it....)

I still have the prototype mag latch-lock that Darin/Prince 50 worked up for me but I don't have a FAL to test it in to see if it works. As soon as I can verify it works Id like to get them made to try and get a little $$ on top to work on my other ideas I have for the future....

Thanks guys for standing by me and being 100% REAL friends. This board is one of THE MOST loyal on the whole net. I can't believe how ****ty I was treated by *other* boards who were supposed to be like family. Calguns you guys are the best.

Had it not been for ALL your help in the worst of my situation 2 months ago or so, I have no doubt I would have had to sell almost everything I own and would have been near homeless. You guys are ALL very very nice. I especially appreciate the help you gave toward my wife....

    Thanks everyone (from Kristy)

Take it easy guys. I hope to get back on more, I want to get back in the swing of things around here.

    PEACE and MUCH LOVE.

Yah thanks guys... I dont want ANYONE, EVER to think I ducked out on Calguns... I love you guys and Im doing my best to be around.

Man I dream of being able to parlay my ability to construct well versed articles and my knowledge of firearms design/history and theory into a PAYING job somehow.

I'd love to be in some sort of career working with a manufacturer or distributor working with guns, whether going to Europe/Asia/Etc to find/inspect/broker deals for C&Rs or Ammo or simply writing articles involving basic gunsmithing... Heck I'd be happy pushing the broom on a steady basis at a firearms related company...

I want to be able to make enough $$ to make a very pretty V2.0 of my 9x19 blow back carbine, for sales in California (Imagine a US made Ironwood Saiga style stock on a US made 2" shorter AK receiver, with a US made 16" 9x19 barrel and US made trunnions, retailing for $350 or so, taking Glock or other common magazines)

In short Im a 100% hoplophile and I will always be, regardless of whats going on in my life. I was/am having some difficulties (mostly stemming from my inability to do much work due to my injury) but with everyones help and support, its been MUCH easier to deal with it all....

Here's a little "thanks" for everyone in the Kristy Fan Club:

And.... When you got a girl like this, it makes ANYTHING easier to deal with

Keep it clean, she still IS my wife ya know... but yah I feel blessed.... I got great friends and a great ol' lady

Keep plugging away dude. Sometimes that light at the end of the tunnel looks more like the light of the frieght train comming to run you over. Many of us have been there. It takes relying on friends and family to get through the though times and one finds out who their friends really are. It takes time to get out of the hole, it took me a few years. Good to see you back and doing better.
