I got tired of struggling with my late 40's eyesight, trying to shoot at indoor ranges. I had my annual eye exam and discussed it with the doc. For $80 I got high impact poly lenses set to the distance of the front sight. What a difference! Front sight is in sharp focus. The bullseye at 25yd is blurry, but not impossible to see. Took some readjusting of how I do my 6 O'clock hold, but quickly adapted. Outdoor I don't have too much difficulty, but the lighting of indoor ranges just required too much eyestrain. Hope this info helps others in my situation.

Prescription shooting glasses

Haha nice. I'm near sided and even though 25 yard or 50 yard target isn't going to be that clear, I think having prescription lenses would GREATLY help me as I would like to see the outline much clearer since the blurriness kind of expands the bull's eye. I have shooting glasses by Revision:

Got them on eBay from a Airforce guy at a great price. I then ordered Revision's Rx carrier directly from them for $20, clips right on:

bought the carrier 2 months ago but still don't feel like going to the optometrist haha I just don't like the exams much. If they can't do it, I'll just ask Revision. They'll be $100R.I.P. Interesting. When I got invited to the indoor range last month (first time in 20+ years) my gun-nut pal handed me a pair of safety glasses to wear. Not only did they drive nuts, I couldn't see crap. So I had to go back to my 'scrip Ray Bans. My friend seemed a bit concerned about my eyes but told me ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Not sure if that's a good thing to do but at least I could see the circles and poke some holes in a few of them.....Comment

I thought about using my prescription sunglasses at an outdoor range. I dunno, I don't want any cartridges hitting them, scratching or possibly breaking them so I just shoot blurry for now. My regular glasses leave way too much of a gap for brass to get inR.I.P. Thomas C.Originally posted by d4v0sMy girlfriend and i used froglube last night in a pinch and it works great.Comment

I have the Revision Sawfly with the RX Carrier. If you want, Lenscrafters will make the lenses for you in an hour to fit the RX carrier, just bring the sunglasses and RX carrier with you so they can measure the center of the lenses.

There is also the ESS glasses."People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

They look good for about the same price too ($89). If I get another pair later I might consider those. On a side note, I tried my reading glasses but the prescription focused on the hammer and rear sight, not the front. I didn't need to bring my handgun into the office. I got into my stance and he measured from my trigger finger to the eye and added 5" for the barrel. He set a chart the same distance in front of the eye gizmo and found what worked.Last edited by smoothy8500; 03-08-2011, 5:09 PM.Comment

My problem is astigmatism and varilux lenses. I don't have any trouble seeing with regular glasses, but when I turn my head to keep the ear protection off of the stock the correction for the astigmatism becomes a problem. I have considered talking to an optometrist to see if a single vision distance lens would work without any other correction in the lens?Comment

I just use my Rx RayBans. So far, no problems. BUT, recently I have given more thought to getting something better suited to the SAFETY factor.

I talked to my doc about that issue. He said they would have to have you look thru the sights and mark where you look thru the lense. Then also figure the focus length with the FRONT sight.Comment
