Thumbs up to my local Wal*Mart

The local Wal*Mart rearranged the sporting goods section (whole store actually...to try and make it seem a tad more 'upscale'...if you can use that term in association with Wal*Mart...but I digress).

So in the sporting good section the ammo (handgun and rifle) is no longer behind the counter. It's now behind a locked glass case in the aisle. This is nice in that you can walk up and easily see what's for sale.

Previously you had to sort of lean over the counter and croon. Sometimes one could see, sometimes not so well.

Anyway, it just makes it much easier now.

Now, if only they'd start selling firearms again (which won't happen)...

Both Wal*Marts near me (San Jose off of Monterey and Bernal, Gilroy off of 10th Street) both stopped selling gun-related stuff. It sucks.

I was so pissed the otherday because I went into the West sacromento Walmart to buy ammo (I went to IKEA with my mom to buy cabinets) and they said they dont sell it at all. I ended up getting a CRKT M-16 knife

Is this a very recent change? I was there about 2 weeks ago. The layout matched Tony's description.

The walmart I go to recently moved the ammo from behind the counter (locked) to shelves. Out in the open.

Which I was surprised by. I mean it's easier to get yourself, but I just can't see how leaving ammo out in the open was approved by whoever is making the decisions at that store.

Mountain View has this set up and its great. They unlock the cabinet and you grab what you like. Easy and you don't have to point and gesture to get the caliber you want. They still give me a funny look when I buy a bunch of WWB 9mm value packs though

The WalMart in Duarte (So Cal) at the Mountain Ave exit off the 210 has their ammo in a glass shelf as described in the other posts. It's been that way for at least a month.

Waiting for the WWB 9mm to go on sale.

The Wally World in Manteca is wrapping up their reset of the store too.

And they still sell ammo, as do the rest of the stores in San Joaquin and Stanislaus County.

the cerritos wal-mart just did this, put all of the ammo in a aisle glass case, was pretty nice, until the lady at the register wouldnt sell me some .410 gauge as it was "pistol ammo".
We're not done yet, we're not going quietly. We'll win in the end.

Yeah, I had the same problem. I asked for "twenty-two long rifle" ammo, and was told I needed to be 21. Uh, it says LONG RIFLE on the box! A walmart employee on another gun board told me the register asks "HANDGUN YES/NO" and most Neanderthals don't actually ask you (as it's legal to buy "handgun ammo" for use in a long gun), they just punch yes. The guy at the register didn't speak english, and a supervisor/manager just bull****ted me that "it's the law" that rifle ammo can't be sold to people under 21. Only shotgun ammo.

I guess .22lr is too dangerous, but 12ga slugs aren't.
