Its a great show to go to if you have never been. Its a good place to pick up AR parts and tools. Ammo is also pretty cheap there but get there early because they do run out of the popular calibers sometimes. About a third of the show is old western collectibles and guns.

My recommendation is to stop by the Cabela's and Scheel's sporting goods store in Sparks. I was very impressed with Scheel's gun dept.

Go, it is worth it. And GUNFREAK is right, make your way out to Scheel's.

So, no CCW at the show....right? wrong?

All firearms are zip tied to make them inoperable, including CCW.
I believe there is also a prohibition against posession of the ammo that matches the firearm you are carrying.

You are right, the show essentially negates CCW permits.

Most gunshows held outside California will be way better than any gunshows in California.

                Can Californians buy anything there?

Yes, it's better than the Cal Expo Show. Yes, well worth going to. Get a room for the night and eat, drink and gamble a little and go to the Gun Show again the next morning.

Probably about 6 or 8 times as large as the Cal Expo Show. You'll be stunned stepping into the room. Then you'll realize there's a second room as big as the first.

Yes, Californians can buy anything there as long as they follow all state and federal laws.

Somewhere on CalGuns there's a story of some Californian buying High Capacity magazines and being stopped by the CHP and Black Helicopters on I-80 a couple of hundred yards past the state border.

                Probably a myth.

Someone asked if there would be magazines for sale there and I didn't see anyone respond.

The answer is there will be long tables stacked with magazines there, probably more magazines than you have ever seen in one spot before. Many of them illegal to import into Kalifornia, but then again, there are many that are legal. I can always find genuine Colt 10 rounders for my AR when I make the trip.

I always get a kick out of seeing people taking ammo out on hand carts, but it is not as frantic now as around the 2010 election.

I go every show. It is well worth it. Milwal is there selling to the public for cheap. I will be going on Friday. In the market for a new AR stock.

                        Show Rules and Information for

                        The Big Reno Show

                        1. No application for space rental is acceptable unless this contract is printed, signed, and dated, or if the Exhibitor agrees fully by checking the "Agree to Show Rules" checkbox on the application form.

                        2. No loaded firearms, magazines or clips will be permitted.
No ready to go stripper clips? That's lame.

I dunno about CHP and black helicopters but earlier in this thread I posted a link to deposition testimony given under penalty of perjury by a staffer (otherwise famous for shooting his own desk ) at CA DOJ where he described a program to watch for CA buyers at the Reno gunshow and then arrest them inside CA for bringing back AW's or hi-cap mags.

I have absolutely no idea if that sort of thing still goes on - but that's the sort of thing that I'd thought about in the past and figured "oh, that would be way too much trouble for them to bother with" and it turns out that's not true. The DOJ staffer now works (or worked, he'll have to retire someday) for SFPD.

Sometimes they really are out to get you.
