It was developed by General Electric, the "We bring good things to life" people. It's one of the modern-day Gatling guns. It shoots very big bullets. It shoots them very quickly.

Someone said, "Let's put it in an airplane."

Someone else said, "Better still, let's build an airplane around it."

I'll never forget stopping mid-run at Mammoth and watching what felt like a 20 minute display of four A10's making pass after pass back and forth over the mountain; looping, rolling, climbing, diving. Truly graceful.

A-10 is one hell of an aircraft.

IMO there is nothing like it in the world. Redundant backup flight controls, armored bathtub, GAU-8 package, a turbine that can suck in the frag from a SAM missile and not miss a beat. Ability to fly missing a wing or without one of its engines. Its ugly, did I mention its ugly... Ugly in a good way.

The A-10 is the Chuck Norris of the CIAS world.
