Mossberg barrel combo deal at big5

are these things any good? Are they comparable to their 500? The ad doesnt designate a model, just "rib vent barrel combo mossberg shotgun"

    thanks in advance

I think it is the standard 500. You get both barrels and the mag is the 5+1. Usually for the same price you can get the Persuader model with just the 20" barrel and 7+1 capacity which is what I got since I already have a field shotgun.

Same combo they have been selling for 10 years, except mine cost me 199.99.

Its good, basic, and works well. Mine has taken ducks and clays and now sits under the bed with #4 waiting patiently until November when it will draw blood again!!!! (from ducks but it make it sound more ominous )

Only thing is I think the fore-end is actually a Maverick one, so if you want to replace it, you'll need new bars. Well, that and the fact that interchangeable chokes would be nice...

Still a great deal for the price.

I bought one a couple years ago. Probably the best value in a quality US made pump. No complaints here

I've had mine for years, first shotgun I ever purchased. Shot clays, squirrels, dove, coyotes, rabbits, etc with it.

Also, I screwed up trying to clean the mag tube out and removed the tube. Couldn't get it back in and scratched the he$$ out of it. Packed it up, sent it to Mossberg. Cost me 17 bucks for the shipping. Took a little longer than they said, but they fixed it for free. Replaced the mag tube, spring and follower and shipped it back absolutely free of charge. They also cleaned it! It was like getting a new shotgun back except for the few dings I had put on it.

I can't promise they give everyone the same service, but I thought it was pretty amazing they would do all that for free when the dang thing only cost me around $275 out the door!

Correct, sometime in the past few years they moved to the maverick fore-end.
It hasn't impacted performance. Swapping fore-end parts information is well documented both here and elsewhere on the net should you feel the need.

Great value, and a lot of fun to shoot. I bought a similar combo, but with a wood stock and fore-end, but mine came with the pistol grip as well.
