    Quotes on the Second Amendment

Found these online. Nice ammo for debating the second amendment, especially when the anti's argue that the "well regulated militia" statement means that since we no longer have a militia the way we did back then that we no longer need the 2nd Amendment. These prove the founding father's did indeed believe this was an individual right, rather than a group right.

    Quotes on the Second Amendment

    The Founding Fathers on Arms
"Firearms stand next in importance to the constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence … from the hour the Pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurences and tendencies prove that to ensure peace security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable … the very atmosphere of firearms anywhere restrains evil interference — they deserve a place of honor with all that's good."

"The supposed quietude of a good man allures the ruffian; while on the other hand arms, like laws, discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as property. Later Quotes on Gun Control
"The ruling class doesn't care about public safety. Having made it very difficult for States and localities to police themselves, having left ordinary citizens with no choice but to protect themselves as best they can, they now try to take our guns away. In fact they blame us and our guns for crime. This is so wrong that it cannot be an honest mistake."

    be sure to research them.
because the Sarah Brady one is fake, so they all could be.
and so is the Hitler one.

I've seen lots of Jefferson quotes that he never spoke or wrote flying around the internet too.

I thought the one from my sigline is real. I like how it asserts that self-preservation is the first law of nature. The 2nd Amendment does not give us the right to defend ourselves, it serves to protect that right. The right to self-defense has preceded the Constitution, always has and always will. I'm pretty sure I've found this ruled by courts in history from my prior research.
"When you get the (men) to the range, you just get the men. But when you bring the (women) to the range, you get the (whole family). And that's what's going to save our 2nd Amendment."--Dianna Liedorff

"Since self-preservation is the 1st law of nature, we assert the...right to self-defense. The Constitution...clearly affirms the right of every American...to bear arms. And as Americans, we will not give up a single right guaranteed under the Constitution." --Malcolm X

That is what I have you for...

The first Hilter quote is right out of Mein Kampf (remember it from back in high school). As for the second one, there about 1000 referrances to it online and I cannot find one saying it is a fake. So please, cite your source. I am very curious to know why you believe it is not real.

As for the Sara Brady one, it certainly sounds fake...or at least something she would immediately dispute. I just copied the list as it was.

Several of these are bogus. Definitely the one attributed to George Washington saying that firearms stand next to importance to the Constitution. Also the one attributed to Jefferson about those who hammer their guns into plowshares...

A more reliable source of quotations can be found in the preface to a U.S. Senate report of a subcommittee on the Constitution entitled, "The Right to Keep and Bear Arms." http://www.constitution.org/mil/rkba1982.htm. It is also an interesting read.

                  Thanks for the quotes

Glad to see the often quoted, but fake, Yamamoto "behind every blade of grass" quote didn't make the list (If you are using that one, please stop cause we look stupid when you do)
