Agree upon a price, meet at the FFL. You hand over the gun and ID Buyer fills out paperwork and comes back in ten days.
When you and the buyer exchange money is entirely up to you, and has nothing to do with the FFL or the buyer passing the check.Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.
- from THE SECOND BOOK OF KYFHO
(Revised Eastern Sect Edition) -
You and the buyer go to your local FFL, tell the staff there you want to do a PPT transaction. Figure out which one of you is going to pay the $35 for the PPT, do the paperwork hand the gun to the FFL and the buyer gets it in 10 days(as long as he doesn't fail the check).Comment

Step 1, Find a buyer
2, Buyer and you meet at a gunshop.
3, Buyer inspects gun and pays you.
4, You take the gun and the buyer into the shop.
5, You fill out paperwork and hand gun to gunshop employee.
6. Buyer fills out paperwork and pays fees.
7, You leave cash in pocket and buyer comes back 10 later to pick up gun.
If the buyer for some reason cannot legally pick up the pistol in 10 days. Not your problem.
Hope that helps.^^ Said by some lunatic on the internetComment

Others have given you the correct answer, but I want to add one note: substantially all firearms sales must go through an FFL; CA law has been that way since 1991.
I continue to be surprised how little-known that requirement is!ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment

People moving in from out of state, haven't sold a firearm in 20 years. Or simply realize they need to do something involving a gunshop but aren't 100% sure what it is they need to do, like the OP apparently.Comment

In Texas
See the ad in the newspaper or online. Meet the seller in the local parking lot at McDonalds. Inspect the weapon; hand over the cash and drive home.
