Importing a Vintage Air Rifle from the UK.

Shortly, I will be visiting family in the UK, where I have stored away a very old BSA Improved Model D under-lever .177 air rifle which I would like to bring back to CA. It has sentimental value to me.

Does anybody know whether it will be possible to mail the air rifle by surface mail, to myself, and am I likely to find any importation restrictions with U.S. Customs?

    Thanks guys.

I suspect you shouldn't have a problem. As far as I know, Air Rifles are 'controlled', even here in CA. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.)

I imported a BSA Airsporter from the UK many years ago, when I relocated here. I also have a good source (in the UK) that specializes in mail-ordering parts for BSA air guns, if you need it.

Pack it up and mail it. Or put it in a case and fly back with it. It's only an air-gun. You should have no problems bringing it back, as long as the UK doesn't mind.

I think it should be OK shipping out on the british end, I just wasn't sure if there was some issue with customs on our end. Also, I know the post office allow items to go travel by surface mail which would not normally be allowed to travel by air.

When you say "controlled", do you mean on rifles which exceed a certain ft/lbs rating?

Ooops. I meant to say "aren't" controlled. Sorry.
