Most likely it will the the A2 H-bar version and a Berretta 9mm."People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."
George Orwell -
US Air Force...
M-16A2
Beretta M9 (Model 92F)
Depending on his MOS and where he is stationed, he could go for many years without touching a firearm, outside of basic training.sigpic

I've talked to AF guys who told me that they went through basic with only a day to handle and look at an M16. They did shoot a 9mm however.Buy my EO Tech XPS3-0!!!
For those nutjobs who like to use the word "gouge"
Note: I did not write the above article.
Any carpenters in Socal want a side project?

He will only spend one day with a live m-16 to qualify. The rest of the time will be spent with a "smurf rifle" (blue m-16) He will not qualify with a pistol while in BMT.
When he is first given the "smurf rifle" the TI will cover safety/operation make sure to tell him to listen to listen and follow instructions carefully. Do not do anything unless told.
When I went through the TI got a phone call and was in his office and told everyone to place our rifles on our bunks and not to touch them. A couple of minutes later we hear a bolt slam shut in the next bay over.
That guy got kicked out so fast I don't even remember his name! lolComment

I'll never forget being in Iraq teaching the airmen on the compound how to use the m16s they were issued....
I kid you not, when we had a little checkpoint set up they had 3 of us and 2 airmen on it.
One of the guys I was with out there looks at me and says.
"hey man, if anything really goes down you can just have my ammo, probably be better that way"
Awesome.... I'm sure there are airmen out there that are very competent shooters, but some jobs just don't get priority I guess..Originally Posted by compulsivegunbuyer View Post

My little brother went through AF basic Nov-Dec '09 and said they only had "a mornings worth" of instruction and time with their weapons before qualifying.
He observed that a majority of his class had never held a gun, period and thankfully he knew his way around a gun. He earned his marksmanship ribbon that afternoon.Comment

most people won't get to shoot the m9. it depends on their job/position. aside from basic, we only shoot prior to deployments. also, it depends on your squadron on the frequency of how much you shoot.Subscribe to my Youtube Channel!

I think the air farce lines recruits up on a 10 meter range with a 3x5 foot targets and if they get 5 out of 10 rounds on paper they qualify.

Like everyone has said, the Air Force isn't about shooting small arms. One day in basic and then depending on His job re-qualify a couple years latter, maybe. The toughset job in basic was folding clothes.
Heck if I knew I had to eat MREs sleep in a tent in the middle of a desert and get shot at,I probably wouldn't have joined! LOL!!Comment

I remember reading about the folding clothes nonsense. Seems the air farce was trying to drill some preciseness into the recruits - many of who end up as mechanics on expensive planes with even more expensively trained pilots in them.
But civilian in flight accidents are still at a lower rate than military ones so what gives...???Comment

It's a high performance thing.Just like more crashes at the race track per capita than main street USA.I remember reading about the folding clothes nonsense.
