    GFOS Surprise

Just got back from Guns Fishing and Other Stuff.

Looks like they finally decided to join the EBR crowd. I saw a few parts in one of the display cases (armorers wrenches, some buis', an A2 carry handle) and when I asked Tom about it, he said that by the end of next month, they will be carrying a pretty good selection of parts and accessories for the AR.

I expect them to be high price wise, but at least it looks like we will have another local option for parts.

As it is, the armorers wrenches were $40, the DoubleStar rear flip up BUIS was $99 and a complete Franklin Armory lower was $379.

They are also a NCStar dealer for all your cheap china crap optics.

Complete lower for $379 isnt too bad when you factor in you are supporting a local gun shop.

Out of curiosity, why do people not like GFoS?

I've been there several times, and I have found the staff to be nice and helpful (this fellow with a mustache in the gun section knows who I am by site and is always quite friendly, not so much the man in the basement...).

Though the prices are a bit higher, i'm just confused is all.

I'm glad that they may have OLL stuff, i'd rather buy some of it in person if I get the itch to build one.
This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.

Because they called everyone who was into OLL's a felon. And because they are rude, and don't know anything about the law, rude, and are full of FUD, rude, and don't know much about gunsmithing yet imply that they're all experts, rude, expensive, rude, have a holier than though attitude, rude.. Would you like for me to continue? I strongly suggest going to Norse Armory in Woodland, TDS Guns in Auburn, Triple A in Vallejo, Diablo Valley Gun Works in Pleasant Hill, J&R in Livermore, or Valkyrie Arms in Milpitas depending on your location over GFoS. You're going to find better prices, less bullcrap, somewhere between 0% and 35% FUD (Varies depending on the "Good old boy" crowd), and as long as you're respectful you will receive respect.

Other than high prices, I have never had a problem with GFOS. They seem to keep their prices just a tick under MSRP on almost everything.

Some of the kids downstairs had an attitude.
Nobody upstairs has been rude to me. I'd hear a lot of misinformation, but it always seemed like they just didn't know.
Somebody once asked if they had AR magazines, the guy said AR magazines were illegal. They did have C Products 10 round mags on the wall.
The same guy once told me that a .22 over .410 combo was illegal because I could shoot a .45LC out of it. I think he was confused with the Taurus Judge.
The new gun prices were a bit high, but I found a few decent deals on the used long gun rack. It's hard to go wrong with a $200 Wingmaster.
The ammo prices make Big 5 seem like a good deal.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

I'm going to have to agree with FS. I was treated horribly by the downstairs staff and just the same by upstairs staff. As a college-educated, clean-cut 20-something, I don't think I fit some sort of profile that was deserving of their attitudes. I asked to see some various pistols while researching my first purchase and was told a few times "Nah, kiddo, that's not for you." It was very discouraging and turned me off to them. Triple A's, Center Mass, and Last Gun Shop have all been much more approachable and friendly and have my business. Just my .02.

I would like to add that when the guy behind the counter told me no, he refused to hand me the pistol. That's no way to run a business or even get rid of the stereotypical FUD "gun owner" image.
