Engraving your firearms on the inside

Has anyone done this or thought of doing this? Maybe put your initials or the serial number on the inside of the slide where it's not normally seen?

I was thinking this might help if your firearm is every stolen and the primary serial destroyed. You could look inside and identify it as your own. Or would the LEA not even bother looking inside the slide for such markings?

I've heard of some custom gunsmiths engraving their names on the inside of the slide. Not a bad idea but I don't think LEO would look under the slide or grips. Only would be good for you to prove that it belonged to you after the serial number has been filed away, perhaps.
