    Need Fronsight Reviews

    I've been considering Frontsight.

Would like to read some reviews from here at Calguns, not reviews from other people.

Tell me the Pro's and Con's.
What you thought and what you really got.

    No thread crapping, please.
Only those that have been through their training please.

    Thanks ahead of time.

I really enjoyed it, if you search here for frontsight, i'm sure you'll find a couple of recent threads.
I'm thinking next time I go, I will go through the same 4day defensive handgun, but do it left handed. thats just me though, I cant shoot worth a darn lefthanded.
or, I'll take my wife and I'll do shotgun while she does handgun.
i went in mid january, with my 17 year old son, the weather was nice.
my son previously had only handled a pistol a few times at the range.
He used a Glock 19, and by day 3, was placing a controlled pair of shots to the thorasic cavity in under 2 seconds, from concealment. and very confidently too.
    to me, thats impressive.
You'll find a lot more if you'll do a quick search here though, there was a llot of threads going just a week ago about front sight.
oh, we stayed at Silverton, just in vegas, a bit further, but was good for me cuz i think it gave me my time to drink my coffee before i got to class
    enjoy

Pros, I think they did a good combination of lecture and shooting.
      i improved my shooting skills

cons, i only did 4 days.
portable toilets, but the were always exceptionally clean, bathrooms should be built by summer
no food available on site, you have to order to be brought or bring it with you

i think closer hotels and amenities would be a big plus

Pros: Great training, interesting lectures, nice ranges, good staff, fun (shoot houses, man-on-man competitions).

Cons: Out in the middle of nowhere, portable toilets, over-the-top marketing (NOT while at Front Sight, but after, even after one becomes a member )

The courses are excellent and a great value if you purchase them correctly.

there are tons of Front Sight reviews out there. i'll say that it was totally worth it - though probably not enough for me to buy a membership, yet (i want to try other training facilities, first).

              instead, i'll contribute this:

(in case you're wondering, the "jam-o-matic gun" was my 1911 about 550-600 rounds in to a no-cleaning experiment. hooray for malfunction drills!)

                  Pros
Surrounded by man folks of a like mind regarding firearms - it's a nice feeling
If you have never taken a class, it is very good for newbies, inexperienced firearms users
                  Clean ranges
                  Good instruction
                  Lectures are good

                  Cons
The pace is slow. I've had two day classes elsewhere cover the same amount of material done at Frontsight in 4 days.
It is not great training as I've had elsewhere
For the cost of transportation and lodging, you might be able to take a local class for less
The list prices for the classes are overpriced IMO by a factor of two compared to other places.
There is a bit of an infomercial feel during some of the lunch meetings and prior to the start in the morning for the lifetime memberships. There is NO pressure to purchase. I just find it moderately annoying.
RIP Louis Awerbuck. I miss you and your training.

yes, do not pay list price for classes! look on boards, Craigslist, and eBay for members with certificates to sell. my buddy won his at a 2A event raffle and i picked one up on eBay ($300) to go with him. they want you go go once for very little money, that's why they give away so many certificates - or remember the free 1-day Uzi classes? wish i could have made it to one of those!

definitely try to go with a friend taking the class, as you save on transportation (it was actually cheaper to drive from the Bay than to fly to Vegas and rent a car) and can split a hotel room. we stayed at the Pahrump Station Best Western, which has a free morning buffet and, iirc, a small discount for FS attendees.

we also bought a case each of Armscor .45ACP in Pahrump since Armscor Precision, Armscor's US rep, is based there. it was a decent price, and we saved a ton by not having to ship it or pay for the gas to have like 75lbs of ammo in the car. i don't know if they still do this, but it might be worth an email.

and yeah, the pace is kinda slow, but i liked it for my first formal firearms course. there was much more lecture than i expected, but i actually enjoyed pretty much all of it. the 4-day Defensive Handgun was much more than just shooting techniques, it included a lot of information about acceptable force, situational awareness, and legal preparation for they day you may have to take a life to defend yourself.

I am a Front Sight member and have taken 5 courses enjoyed them all.. learned a lot each time.
the only con I can think of is that I can't spend more time there. I know different people see things differently but being in the middle of nowhere is a plus for me and I have no problem with porta poties.
my opinion is that you will be glad you went and will start planning your next trip before you get home from the first. if you don't , you will be the exception.
                      go and enjoy.

if you need a certificate, I can help . I think I have one or two in the drawer.

                        Thank you everyone.

This is the kind of information I was looking for.

Thanks again and keep on shooting!
