Brownings are good to go. Considering that one's size and age if it's less than around
$800 I would go for it

is it fireproof? what gauge steel walls? size? weight?

If the components are similar to modern safes, it will be just as strong. You cant really go wrong with a manual safe as long as the critical components are there (above).

I believe this model is not fireproof. I'm not sure about the gauge but it's a good safe in all other respects.

Its going for 600 which is a good deal. However,, I cant tell from the pics what kind of locking bolts it has. I dont see any reciever holes in the door frame except for what appears to be a 1/2" or so hole at the very top of the left side.

Anybody know about the latching of this sucker?

the bolts probably lock behind that lip that runs down the side

I have one very similiar to what's picture. Mine is green and is the gold series. It has three - 5/8" bolts on each side (6 total) behind the lip. It is not fire proof. Very solid and about 400 lbs. I too got mine on CL and very happy for what i paid.

Hmmm,,, wonder how pry proof it would be with that locking mechanism.

i have an almost identical older Browning ProSteel i found from CL. 3 locking bolts from each side of door.

i am very happy with my safe. it is tight and solid. the manual combination lock never fails me and is high quality. when i close the door latch... it sounds like a jail cell door closing; again, tight and solid.

i would love to have an older Fort Knox safe but am very satisfied with my old Browning.

$600.00 is a very decent price imo. mine has an opening at the top which has allowed me to use a Goldenrod for rust prevention.

Send me a PM reminder late this afternoon. I will try to remember to look at mine when I get home.

Perhaps you're right. Around 400 would probably be a good price. I'm not sure what you mean by manual safe but if you're referring to the traditional lock style it's pretty bullet proof.

I like the extension cord shut in the safe door running under the couch.
