    Blanks?

Did I read somewhere that if you put blanks in a semi auto pistol of an AR that it would not cycle.
I see movies all the time and I pretty sure there shooting blanks.
And no I don't want any blanks thank you very much, just asking

Firearms used in movies are Blank-Fire Adapted... they have cones installed in the barrels that direct most of the gasses back to cycle the weapon, yet allow a small amount to escape in order to provide muzzle-flash. Even then, the flash is usually digitially enhanced in post-production. You cannot fire conventional ammo out of any BFA firearm.

Revolvers, non-semiauto rifles and shotguns, and grenade launchers are not BFA and fire blanks unmodified.

Blank adapter/restrictors are usually 3/8 allen set screws with a hole drilled into it that is threaded into a drilled and tapped barrel end. Hole size must be adjusted to match the blanks being used so that the gun will cycle reliably, but not over pressurize the action.
