Here is a brief conversation I had on an anonymous chat website. I am "melon" and the other guy is "pumpkin." I thought I argued my side nicely, and he blocked me. What do you think?
I thought my answers/logic were pretty good; any critiques?
Pumpkin_50@Ucdavis: you are a gun owner?
from a logical point of view, why do you feel the need to own a gun in order to protect yourself? do you feel unsfe?
i mean, you can't carry a concealed weapon without a special licence, and even then it's a hasstle
Melon_160@Ucdavis: It is a hassle in CA
See, here is the issue
I am not so paranoid to think everyone is out to get me
but, I am not so naive as to think that I am always safe and that nothing will happen to me
I would prefer to own a defensive firearm and never use it in that capacity, than be a victim of violent crime that could have potentially been prevented had I been armed.
Pumpkin_50@Ucdavis: no but it's odds
even if you use the weapon bro, you'l go though hell trying to justify self defense etc
Melon_160@Ucdavis: In CA yes
So should I die?
Pumpkin_50@Ucdavis: you won't die
Melon_160@Ucdavis: What do you mean?
Pumpkin_50@Ucdavis: you know how hard it is to kill someone
imagine trying to kill someone with ap istol
Melon_160@Ucdavis: yeah?
inside a house?
Pumpkin_50@Ucdavis: how shakey your hands would be. how your knees would knock. you're about to take someone's life
think about all the hesitation and thought that would overpower you
Melon_160@Ucdavis: The idea is that it is him or me
I will not draw a firearm unless I am prepared to use it
I am not intent on taking a life, I am trying to stop a threat intent on causing myself or a loved one physical harm
If a life is taken in the process, then that is unfortunate, but it was obviously necessary to stop the threat.
Pumpkin_50@Ucdavis: black and white aren't we
Melon_160@Ucdavis: It's the truth
What, you think that gun ownership is an ego inflator? no, it isn't. It is a weighty responsibility.
