    Gunshow Handgun Purchases

Any tips on buying a handgun at gunshows? Is the process like a private party transfer? Thanks.

No. The process is like buying from out of state, usually minus shipping.

You go to the dealer, inspect the gun. Pay and he ships it to a FFL near you, or you can go to his store to start the DROS/4473 paperwork.

In CA, no one walks out with firearms actually purchased from the gun show.

Then I would have to pay the FFL fee, either at his store or one of my choice, which I assume can be around $100 on top of the DROS fee?

Please forgive my naivete; so far I've only bought my handguns through brick-and-mortar dealers and not online or at a gunshow. Thanks.

It can be a private party transfer if the gun you are buying is from a private seller walking around the gunshow with a sign advertising his gun. You also must find an FFL that is local enough for you to not need the gun to be shipped to perform the PPT.

Then am I in the ball-park with the FFL transfer fee amount if I can't find a PP who can be present at a licenced dealer to close the deal?

All in all a sale of the firearm must be transfered through an FFL.
If at the show you find a gun and the search begins for a dealer local enough to you to provide the transfer.
You must do the 10 day wait and background check.
Transfer fees vary from dealer to dealer.
