    50 BMG rifle

So... turns out my next "I have to have it" gun is a .50 and I'm wondering a couple of things I'm hoping a few people here might be able to help me out with.

    1. It's my understanding that the nanny state hates anything that uses .50 BMG and there's no way around that. I don't want some gimped up version of one, just a straight up bolt action rifle. Is there an acceptable work-around like we have for full featured AR's, or am I just going to have to keep the upper and lower separated until I enter the United States, i.e. an actual free state?

    2. Apparently one of the workarounds is using a rifle chambered in .510 DTC. Is this cartridge worth a damn, or is it just a gimped up BMG?

    3. Say the DTC is a good cartridge, can anyone vouch for the Ferret50?

    4. Should I just say F-California and move to the United States where I don't have to deal with this crap and get an AR-50?

    5. I would totally get an M82A1, but I'd rather spend $3000 on an introductory rifle as opposed to $10,000

    Thanks!

Unless you have a Delorean equipped with the flux capacitor, you may not own a .50 BMG rifle in California.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

No new .50BMG rifles are allowed since January 2005. Those existing must be currently registered. .50BMG ammo was not banned

Any other .50 caliber is legal.

But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

If your are far enough south in socal, I have an AR50 and a Ferret if you would like to check them out.

The ban only effects 50 bmg rifles, anything else is good to go. Semi auto M2 leaps to mind. 510 dtc is just a slightly blown out 50 bmg, but it isn't a 50 bmg so it's good to go.

Funny thing you mention that, as I happen to have one in my garage right now. However, seeing as I can't seem to get my hands on the plutonium necessary to produce the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity necessary to power the time circuits and also lack any clues as to the exact time and place of a future lightning strike (also given the lack of clock tower topped court houses around here), I unfortunately lack any realistic means of going back in time to register anything.

If you have a RAW AR lower, you can always put a 50BMG upper on it.

Is the DTC cartridge worth a damn? Yep! It's actually a better (more efficient) design for bolt action guns. I have a few friends who can and have shot 4"-5" 5 shot groups at 1000 yards with their DTCs. One of my friends took FCSA rookie of the year with his ROBAR built DTC at the world championships a few years ago. Another couple friends (husband and wife) took home almost as many awards as Lee and Sheri Rasmensen at the last Coalinga match we had.

If you are looking for a precision rifle, stay away from an 82. They are 2moa guns that can be tweeked to 1.5moa guns. If you are serious about 50s, join the FCSA and become more edjmacated before you buy! Many manufactures also give FCSA discounts so, your membership will save you money.

If you want an upper, look at Advanced Long Range uppers. They have shot under .3moa groups in matches and have set a lot of world records in the past. Lee & Sheri have broken them all in the last few years but, ALS uppers are worth the +1 year wait!

Finally, if you like to keep a big saving account, don't get a 50. That comes from the guy who just blew his vaction money on 4000 pieces of 50BMG brass the day before leaving for the SHOT Show and a week in Vegas. BTW, wanna buy some brass?

If you're interested in seeing my AR50L or ALS set up, let me know.

If you get to Angeles on a weekend, Impactco is normally there with his Ferret 50 (DTC) and rents it by the shot.

I'm pretty close to as far south and to the west of California as you can get and would definitely be interested in having a look (thanks for offering). Let me know via PM what you have in mind. I'll be looking to buy sometime in the next 9 - 12 months and would appreciate any hands on research I can get.
