INPUT - THINKING ABOUT MAKING HOLSTERS AND MAG HOLDERS

I have a few sheets of Kydex coming.

I plan on using them to make some IWB mag holders for my XD45 and my CS45

I also plan on making an IWB holster for my CS45..

Got me thinking that if they turn out pretty good, I might start making them and selling them on Ebay.

Only question I have is I pretty much can only make mag holders and holsters for the weapons I actually posses right? I mean is there a place that sells molds if different pistols? Or would I have to start doing some serious gun collecting?

I think I am also going to make an IWB holster for my DE 50AE.

Basically just because I can, not that anyone would actually use it for a CCW lol..



I already have a computer consulting business I do part time, but due to the economy that has not been bringing in the money it used to.

And since I am building a reloading bench from scratch, I could also make it a work area for making holsters and mag holders..



Any thoughts or advice? basically trying to think of starting a new business to bring in some extra funds.

If you have an FFL license I wouldn't mind sending you a few of my pistols so you could use them as molds. I pay you of course for making me some holsters.

I'd actually need a bunch in different configurations, eg IWB, OWB, with a tactical light, without, etc.

Actually I have a friend who has an FFL. I could possibly work something out with him.

But let me see if I can make something decent with my stuff first lol.

I am usually pretty good at making just about anything. But haven't tried this. I will make some holsters for my guns and magazines and if they turn out good I will post pics.

I am very cautious about making things and trying to sell them without throuroughly testing them first.

I made a really cool license plate bracket for my motorcycle that attacke right to the existing chain gaurd mouting holes.

Thought it was a great idea, then after a few hundred miles vibration cause it to break at a certain point.

So I made another one, and this time used my welder to strengthen the area.

I had intended on making these and selling them, but due to the first failure, I wanted to put some miles on the second one. So the second one did fine for about 3000 miles, then it broken in a different place.

After that happened I started thinking about the whole thing, about being concerned about selling a product that could potentially break, worrying about liability issues and stuff.

So I ended up scrapping this idea.

Once I get them made I will make sure they work good.

If I determine they do work good, what I will probably do is offer to make a few for people at no charge (just pay for material cost and any shipping) so I can have other people test them out. and if they turn out good and like them, all I would ask is for a good reference. and they can keep them.

I will keep you in mind when I get to that point.

I think I will purchase an XD45 one since I own one and I will see how the mold works using the blue gun for the mold.

Check for alternative sources for the blue guns, too. I only posted the Botach link because the page was pretty comprehensive. I've never had a problem ordering from Botach, but a lot of people have.

Good idea on buying the same model as what you have to try first.

Not as simple as it seems...very time consuming to get it right, sanding, forming, etc.
