Need Help and Advice about CCW!!!!

    Hi Everyone,
This is my first post and I am in desperate need of help and advice on how to obtain my CCW in Kern County. I have recently been appointed the head of security at my local church and want to carry my Kimber Ultra Carry II with me during church get togethers and services to protect the people. My church is not in the best neighborhood and we have had incidents where unknown people have charged into my church and disrupted the service. I have tried every way to obtain a CCW in Kern County and I just can't get one, because in California a person needs to provide two "bills" to prove proof of residency. I have one proof (vehicle registration), but cannot provide another, because I live with my parents at the time being, because I separated from the military, went to college full time and just graduated from Cal State Bakersfield. I have a CCW from Arizona and I am a Veteran of the United States Air Force. I am a war Veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan. I have done training at Front Sight Training in Parumph, Nevada and plan on taking more training, so I know what I'm doing with my pistol and understand the ramifications of when to and when not to use it. Is there anything I can do to get around providing a second "bill?" I am an avid shooter and practice at the range all the time, so I have a "good cause." Does California law allow me to carry concealed while on church property without a permit? It is technically private property and I would if I knew I wouldn't get in trouble. I have tried to talk to the sheriff officiers who handle the CCW's in Kern County, but none of them will return my calls or answer my letters. Can someone please give me some advice as to what I can do? I will be greatly in your debt and thank you for your time and answers. Craig

Why not just get your parent's utility bills changed into your name?

        Drivers license..
your dd214 has your home address doesnt it, or your final discharge papers, as to your home of record, which is a government document
Passport even, is an official government id also.

The officers not answering your questions,, they've probably been burned before when simply trying to give suggestions or recommendations. Just dont hold that against them is what I mean by saying that.

I'd be very careful about what you're doing. You may be required to register as a security guard, with firearms permit because of your intent to provide armed security, and the Church may be required to register itself as a PPO.

You may see if you can get your folks to provide a rental agreement or something to that effect, if that makes any difference.

Just so everyone knows, Kern County will not accept a DD-214 or any other Government document to turn your CCW application in. It has to be some form of a utility bill that shows the address of service. It doesn't make sense why they would not accept any Government document, but that's the rules.

drivers license is the easiet way, Kern County is one of those places where CCW is made easy to get, as long as you have all documents. I did a ppt with someone from kern county that was a few days away from getting his ccw. If the church is private prop. and you have permission from the owner you don't need a ccw to conceal carry.

You sound like you want to be a cop.

Generally not a good idea when applying for CCW.

My advice would be to tone it down some or the residency requirement may become moot.

Appagohm, a driver's license is only one of the documents needed to turn in your application. A person needs to have two current bills that show "address of service," as stated on the first page of instructions. I do believe all church's are private property and do not what to take the chance of being arrested and convicted of a felony. I'd rather be covered and have a CCW in case there was a problem with law enforcement.

Hopalong, I have no desire to become a cop. I have the up most respect for cops and believe anyone who becomes a officer of the law is a person of the highest caliber, but I believe one who wants to protect oneself and those around me, that I should not need to become a cop or need a permit. I just want to do my job, protect me and my fellow congregants, and deter a attack if one should arise, God forbid. I took enough lives in Iraq.

I Wouldn't put your desire to be an unlicensed armed security guard as your reasoning for getting the permit.

Should be easy to just sign up for a service to get your 2nd bill. Secured credit card, land line, cell phone, internet, cable tv, anything. It doesn't mean you need to keep the service.

Really? Where could one find some more info at?

I dont know if this is 100% or not but I think if its on private property and you have the consent from the owner it is ok. I would ask somebody that knows for sure though.
